Side note: I will try to do food posts from now on.
After finding out that we had an entire free day on Tuesday due to the public holiday (Gio to Hung Vuong Day, a day to commemorate the mythical Hung Kings [and you know what they say about hung kings... They shouldn't brag to their eunuchs! -jsn] ), we booked a full day tour for the Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnels.
The minibus ride was surprisingly long... 3 hours to cover just 120 km. Thankfully, the bus was air conditioned.
Our tour guide was a little bit of a nut.. a nice man, but he definitely needed to take a chill pill. Seemed like he was bouncing all over the place trying to keep the group together. He also sang a lot...
We started out at the Cao Dai Temple (FYI, wikipedia.. I'm not even too sure what caodaism is though). The church was interesting... over the top, tacky, colorful.. again, I am not sure what caodaism is, haha. We stayed a while to observe part of the mass that they have four times a day (I think they only attend once a day, though). This part of the trip was okay... interesting, but by this point I was a little templed out. T'was a little bland for my liking. And it was too hot (surprise, surprise).
Apparently, we weren't supposed to take pictures with us in it? Our tour guide was confusing us...
Next, we went to a little restaurant down the road for lunch (not included in our tour package... lame.) Jason ordered the "Steak and chips".
Jason: "If the steak ends up being thin slices of beef, I'm gonna flip."
He did not. He was pretty disappointed though. But what can you expect in Vietnam, right?
Up next, Cu Chi Tunnels (used in the Vietnam war, so they're only about 40 years old)

Now you don't!
Will he fit???

Jackfruit tree... I'd like one in my backyard.

Mission accomplished (this one's for you, Mike)
After this, we went into a short segment of the actual Cu Chi Tunnels... it was probably the worst 45 seconds of my life. Dark, narrow tunnel.. hunched over, shuffling along... It was probably even worse for Jason, considering his height.
Came back to the city and ate overpriced pho (still tasty though) at Pho 2000 :(
All in all, good day!

they came out of the ground man!!
