The marble mountains are a set of 5 mountains situated between Da Nang and Hoi An. They look entirely out of place, as they just seemingly stick out from the ground randomly, surrounded by flat land all around. I will need to ask my in house geologist Yvonne Nguyen for more information on this, as these land formations make absolutely no sense to me. Actually, I'll call Yvonne or any geologist out right now. If you're reading this, post a comment explaining why these random mountains exist where they do.
So 5 mountains. The largest: Thuy Son, literally translated to Water Mountain, houses several pagodas and temples on top, as well as within. This is the day's destination.
Around the mountain lives a community of artisans and sculptors who work with the marble from the mountain to create jewelery, statues and furniture.
I mentioned earlier that we ended up renting a motorbike all 3 days we were in Hoi An. Day 1, we wanted to hit the beach, but ended up not going. Day 2, we actually got to the beach. Finally, on day 3, we planned on going to the Marble Mountain. After talking to an employee at the Dai Long, he convinced us the best way to get to the Marble Mountains was to rent a motor bike and make the trip ourselves. I gotta say, it was an excellent decision to go via motorbike.

| All around Hoi An, there is endless construction of new luxury resorts. The tourism industry that feeds this town is at the same time stripping it of its simple seaside charm that attracts thousands of travelers every year. |
Back in Hoi An for a few more hours before heading out to Da Nang. We visited a few more community houses to use up the rest of our Hoi An funny money. Afterwards, we took a local bus from Hoi An to Da Nang- way too crowded and my body was not designed for Vietnamese bus seats.
1) Do people spit randomly in vietnam?
ReplyDelete2) What is the toilet paper like?
3) what is mind craft?
Hey guys! Looks like you're having a lot of fun! I'm not really specialized in this field, but my best guess would be there were plate tectonics and possible fault movements concentrated in that specific area. The tectonic process would have caused metamorphism of limestone to marble during the formation, hence the change in lithology. Just an educated guess.. I don't know if that helped at all.
ReplyDeleteBtw, love the minecraft implications! ;)
oh and it's Yvonne. :)
ReplyDeletei've seen people hock up phlegm, spit as well as urinate randomly in vietnam
